Tutorial -- Making Banners
Making banners using Photoshop~! I have not yet found a reasonably easy way to make banners using Open Canvas 1.1b. If anyone has any info on a nice way to do this, please leave me a message! Here is a link to a mostly similar page showing how to do the same thing using Picture Publisher.

Step-By-Step

Open the picture you want to make a banner with (obviously O_O;)

1. Choose the "Rectangular Marquee Tool"
2. Select the "Marquee Options" tab
3. Choose the "Constrained Aspect Ratio" style

Now, make the width and height to be whatever size you want your banner as. I choose 200x40, another normal button size is 88x31

Here's an optional part. A lot of times, your picture isn't at the right angle for how you want it in the banner, so here I rotated my picture so it could fit better~. This can take a bit of trial and error to get to the right angle, good thing for the undo button! ^_^

Here's what it looked like after I rotated it.

Anywhoo, make sure you're on that Rectangular Marquee Tool, and now click and drag the mask around whatever you want in your banner! The constrain aspect should make sure it stays proportional to whatever size you want your banner at.

1. Hit Ctrl+C to copy your new selection (Or go to Edit->Copy on the toolbar).
2. Hit Ctrl+N to create a new file (Or go to File->New on the toolbar).
3. A popup window (like above, but with different numbers) will appear. Leave all the default values and click "OK"

A new window in proportion to your banner will appear. (It may be much bigger or much smaller though...but don't worry!)

Make sure you have your new window selected, and hit Ctrl+V (Or go to Edit->Paste on the toolbar). Your copied picture should appear in the banner!

Now to resize the banner to the right size. Go to Image->Image Size on the toolbar

Make sure "pixels" is selected, along with the "Constrain Proportions" checkbox. Then enter your new banner's size! (Here I entered 200 x 40). Afterwords, hit "OK"

The new banner may suddenly appear very, very small...make sure your zoom is on 100% to see the true size. Anyways, you should now have a banner! All set and ready for you to add text, special effects, whatever you want! ^_^
